Arizona State University (ASU) is one of the premier metropolitan public research universities in the USA. Enrolling more than 60,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on three campuses in metropolitan Phoenix, ASU maintains a tradition of academic excellence in core disciplines, and has become an important global center for innovative interdisciplinary teaching and research. U.S. News & World Report ranks the industrial engineering program at ASU 17th in the nation —third among Western U.S. research universities.

The research expenditures of the Department are approximately $2 million per year. Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering is well recognized nationwide. The school consists of 18 faculty arranged in three strategic, yet interacting clusters: Operations Research and Production Systems, Quality and Reliability Engineering, and Information & Management Systems Engineering. The Supply Chain Management Department of the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU is ranked #3 in U.S. News & World Report of 2006. Current interest in supply chain management is increasing based on the need for businesses to purchase, produce, move, and market goods and services in a global environment.
